As a family prepares for the arrival of their newborn, concern for their baby's safety becomes a top priority. However, the leading cause of accidental injury deaths to infants in New York City is an unsafe sleep environment. The babies most at risk are those who are born to low-income families who cannot afford to buy a crib, the best place for a baby to sleep safely.
The New York City Cribs for Kids program provides high-risk families with a portable crib and safe sleep education. The program has distributed over 1,600 cribs since 2007. Click here for stories of families who have already received cribs. We estimate that there are over 10,000 families still in need of cribs and education to keep their babies safe.
This holiday season we are committed to distributing 250 cribs to families in need. Please help us reach our goal. A contribution of $100 will provide one family with a portable crib, two crib sheets, a sleep sack, and netting as well as the education needed to keep their baby safe.
