The health of a child is a strong indicator for how healthy that child is throughout life. Obese children and adolescents, for example, are more likely to become obese adults. Lead poisoning can result in mental development delays, which can impact a child’s education and opportunities. Raising healthy children – whether that involves increasing access to timely vaccination and primary care, breastfeeding or reducing risks for lead poisoning or asthma – is a priority of the NYC Health Department. The Fund for Public Health in New York (FPHNY) is working with the DOHMH to implement many projects that help New York City raise healthy children.
