The
Fund for Public Health in New York, Inc. (FPHNY) is dedicated
to a vision of New York City in which individuals are educated
about their health, health care is accessible to all, and
health providers are trained, equipped, and prepared for
the challenges of tomorrow. FPHNY addresses communicable
and chronic disease, as well as the promotion of healthy
lifestyles and access to health care. Preparedness, prevention,
and innovation are key.
Reflecting a vast spectrum of critical public health
issues and functions, FPHNY has Programs
in the following overall areas:
New Approaches
in Public Health:
Effective stewardship of public health requires innovation
and the pursuit of excellence. The Fund for Public Health
in New York fosters research and development of new approaches
while assisting in efforts to scale up programs proven to
work.
Strengthening Health Services and Systems:
In partnership with the New York City Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene, the Fund for Public Health in New York
is working to strengthen preparedness and capacity in health
services and systems in New York City.
Understanding
and Informing Health Policy:
Sound public health policy depends on the availability of
reliable data to assess health conditions and monitoring
health trends over time. The Fund for Public Health in New
York is engaged in efforts to bring new information to light
and disseminate existing information in a form usable in
communities and by policy makers.
Educating
Communities and Building Constituencies:
Community involvement is key to successful public
health efforts. The Fund for Public Health in New York is
partnering with community groups to strengthen public health
awareness and access to information and services.
Specific programs address public health issues such as
hospital emergency preparedness, perinatal health, worksite
wellness, colon cancer, childhood obesity prevention, access
to medications, and school-based screening for sexually
transmitted infections. For more information, read about
these Programs and visit the
website of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
where you can find information about health issues and concerns.
